SHOWS: The Drowsy Chaperone Cast
 
DAVID SCHMITTOU (Man in Chair)

David happily celebrates his 10th season at STAGES where representative credits include HIGH SOCIETY, SHE LOVES ME, SWEET CHARITY, BIG, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and HELLO, DOLLY! (Kevin Kline nomination).  Regional credits include DOUBT, BLITHE SPIRIT, THE MUSIC MAN, TEN LITTLE INDIANS, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, and ANYTHING GOES.  David also toured Europe in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW and can be heard on the cast recording.  Recently, he wrote the liner notes and co-produced the CD of a rare live backers audition for the Broadway Musical ALL AMERICAN on Harbinger Records.


 

DAVID ELDER (Robert Martin)

David returns to STAGES for a 3rd season where previous credits include Bobby Child in CRAZY FOR YOU (Kevin Kline Award) and the Emcee in CABARET (Kevin Kline Nomination).  Broadway credits include CURTAINS (Bobby Pepper), 42ND STREET (Billy Lawlor/Outer Critics and Astaire Award Nomination), KISS ME KATE (Bill Calhoun), TITANIC (Fleet, the Lookout), ONCE UPON A MATTRESS with Sarah Jessica Parker, DAMN YANKEES, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and GUYS AND DOLLS with Nathan Lane.  Recent regional credits include Phil Davis in Irving Berlin’s WHITE CHRISTMAS (The Fox in Detroit), Don Lockwood in SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (Goodspeed), Pat Gilbert in STATE FAIR (The Walnut), and Hildy in WINDY CITY (The Walnut).  Career highlights include playing Joe Hardy opposite Jerry Lewis in the 1st National tour of DAMN YANKEES and portraying Tapping Timothy Harper opposite Kristin Chenoweth in STRIKE UP THE BAND for Encores!  TV/Film credits include ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, JEFFREY, CRADLE WILL ROCK, and “Guiding Light.”

TARI KELLY(Janet Van De Graaff)

Tari happily returns to STAGES having last appeared as Connie Lane in GOOD NEWS.  Broadway credits include HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS (Mama Who), THE BOY FROM OZ (Trio and u/s Liza Minnelli), and Hal Prince’s SHOW BOAT (Kim Ravenal and u/s Ellie).  National tour credits include LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (Audrey), SHOW BOAT (Ellie), and Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Silly Girl and u/s Babette).  Off-Broadway credits include STREAKIN’ (Chrissie).  Tari has also appeared regionally in such favorite roles as Millie Dillmount in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (Jeff nomination), Sally Bowles in CABARET, Velma Kelly in CHICAGO, Leda/Galinda in EVERYTHING’S DUCKY (Jeff nomination),

CHRISTIANNE TISDALE (The Drowsy Chaperone)

Christianne makes her STAGES debut this season.  Broadway and West End credits include Belle in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, the occasional Leonide in TRIUMPH OF LOVE, and Molly in ONE TOUCH OF VENUS.  Christianne also appeared as Lady Caroline in the 1st National tour of TITANIC. Off-Broadway, she has played at the York, 2nd Stage, MTC, and the Public.  Favorite regional credits include MORNING’S AT SEVEN at Berkshire Theatre Festival and EMMA at both The Rep and Cincinnati Playhouse.  Television and film credits include “30 Rock,” “Late Night with David Letterman,” “Law & Order: CSI,” and the title role in A TALE OF CINDERELLA. EDWARD JUVIER (Aldolpho)

Edward is thrilled to be back in St. Louis working with the amazing team at STAGES!  Returning for a 3rd season, he appeared last year as Marcellus Washburn in THE MUSIC MAN and was seen as Sancho Panza in MAN OF LA MANCHA.  As an actor, Ed has also appeared in both the National tour and Broadway production of LES MISERABLES.  New York credits include FANNY (York), TRIUMPH OF LOVE (Lincoln Center), and SMOKING BLOOMBERG (NYMTF), a production he also produced which won the “Best of Fest 2006” award.  Some favorite regional and stock credits include THE PRODUCERS (Max), …FORUM (Pseudolus), BAT BOY (Rick/Lorraine), and OKLAHOMA! ED ROMANOFF(Feldzieg)

Ed is thrilled to be back at STAGES where he was an inaugural Company member in 1987.  Broadway credits include HAIRSPRAY starring George Wendt and THE MOST HAPPY FELLA (Broadway cast recording).  Ed has also appeared in the Las Vegas production of HAIRSPRAY starring Harvey Fierstein and in the New York City production of CHILDREN & ART: Sondheim 75th Celebration.  Tour credits include ANNIE: 30th Anniversary Tour (cast recording), MAN OF LA MANCHA starring Jack Jones and Ron Holgate, and JOLSON: The Musical.  Regionally, Ed has appeared as Max Bialystock in THE PRODUCERS.  Television credits include “Gossip Girl”, “TV LAND’S Really Big Shows (Host), “Kids’ Court”, and “Robert Klein Time.”  Ed is gloriously married to director/actress, Joyce A. KARI ELY (Mrs. Tottendale)

Kari is always delighted to return to STAGES where THE DROWSY CHAPERONE marks her 31st production with the STAGES family.  Most recently seen as Shen Te in THE GOOD PERSON OF SETZUAN (St. Louis Actor’s Studio) and as Sonia in SONIA FLEW (New Jewish Theatre), Kari has been a proud member of Actors’ Equity since 1983 and is a 7 time Kevin Kline nominee.  Last year, Kari played Mrs. Meers in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (STAGES) and Tzwara in CHIAM’S LOVE SONG (NJT) in which both performances received a Kevin Kline nomination.  Perhaps her most terrifying and cherished role to date is as a bride to her new husband, actor Peter Mayer. Kari thanks you for giving yourself the gift of live theatre.

JOHN ALBAN COUGHLIN (Underling)

John is happily returning for a 3rd season with STAGES having appeared previously in 1776 and CABARET.  Other theatrical credits include the National Tour of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and director Des McAnuff’s premiere of PALM BEACH at The La Jolla Playhouse.  Film and television appearances include ROOT CANAL, WHAT’S LEFT, “Ugly Betty,” “Life On Mars,” “Kings,” “Gossip Girl,” and “Lipstick Jungle.”  John received the Edward Albee Playwright’s Conference’s Panelists Choice award for his play, THE SIDE SHOW SOUL.  He has also had several of his plays produced in New York including TIMBERLAKE, AMERICAN PULP, and OF LIVES AND LEAVES.

BRIAN OGILVIE (George)

Brian is very excited about returning to STAGES where audiences may remember his performances as Henrik in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and the tail-wagging title character in SNOOPY!!!  Brian just returned from Florida Stage and the premiere production of CAGNEY, a new musical about the life and career of Hollywood’s favorite gangster/hoofer, James Cagney.  Other credits include ALTAR BOYZ (Luke), THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (Jimmy), 42ND STREET (Billy Lawlor), and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Russian Tenor).   MELINDA COWAN (Kitty)

Melinda is thrilled to return to STAGES for a 3rd season where she has previously appeared as Rose Smith in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS and Patsy in CRAZY FOR YOU.  Some of her other past favorite credits include Ellie in SHOW BOAT (NSMT), Anytime Annie in 42ND STREET, Josie in GEORGE M!, Philia in …FORUM, Irving Berlin’s WHITE CHRISTMAS (Boston and Detroit companies), and the first German language production of 42ND STREET.  Many thanks to the STAGES family!

BEN NORDSTROM (Gangster #1)

Ben returns to STAGES for his 6th season where roles include Laurie in LITTLE WOMEN, Ren in FOOTLOOSE (Kevin Kline Award), and Arpad in SHE LOVES ME.  Other favorites include THE UGLY ONE (Echo), MARY’S WEDDING (Echo; KKA nom), INTO THE WOODS (Lyceum), URINETOWN (St. Louis Rep; KKA nom), AMADEUS (Great Lakes), and EQUUS (Alley).  Locally, Ben has worked with The Rep, HotCity, Sheldon Concert Hall, New Jewish Theatre, Arrow Rock Lyceum, and is an ensemble member with Echo Theatre Company.  He recently made his cabaret debut with his solo show at the Kranzberg Center.  Ben holds a BFA in musical theatre from Webster University and is a proud member of Actors’ Equity.  He is blessed with his beautiful wife, Kristen, and their son, Samuel.

MICHAEL BAXTER (Gangster #2)

Michael is proud to be making his debut at STAGES.  Regional credits include THE PRODUCERS (Ensemble/Trustee) and MY ONE AND ONLY (Ensemble) at The Muny, KISS ME KATE (Ensemble/Haberdasher) at The Rep, and SHE LOVES ME (Arpad Lazslo), GODSPELL (Lead Performer), and JUNIE B. JONES (Meanie Jim/Grandpa) at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre.  In May, Michael received his BFA in Musical Theatre from Webster University where selected university credits include OKLAHOMA! (Will Parker), ANGELS IN AMERICA: MILLENIUM APPROACHES (Prior Walter), JACQUES BREL…(Lead Performer), and CABARET (Emcee).  Thanks to my family, friends, and teachers for all of their love and support!  Proud AEA Member!

  ZOE VONDER HARR (Trix)

Zoe toured in the 1st International Company of A CHORUS LINE for two years before returning to her home town of St. Louis to raise her family.  She has performed in 50 STAGES productions in such roles as Dolly Levi in HELLO, DOLLY! (Kevin Kline Award), Mama Rose in GYPSY, Mame Dennis in MAME, and Cassie in A CHORUS LINE.  Zoe has also appeared numerous times at The Rep, The Muny, and throughout the year could be seen performing in THE AMERICAN MUSICAL at the Sheldon Concert Hall.  When not performing, Zoe teaches dance and choreographs at 7 schools in the St. Louis area.

  PATRICK MARTIN (Super/Ensemble)

Patrick is thrilled to be making his debut at STAGES!  A native of Marietta, Georgia, where he graduated from the Cobb County Center for Excellence in the Performing Arts, Patrick is also a recent graduate of The College-Conservatory of Music at The University of Cincinnati.  Representative credits include WONDERFUL TOWN (Robert Baker), URINETOWN (Officer Lockstock), PASSION, THE FULL MONTY, THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM, and “The Magical Music of Disney” with the Cincinnati Pops, starring Ashley Brown.

LAURA ERNST (Ensemble)

Laura delightedly returns to STAGES having appeared in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC in 2007.  Most recently, she played Nellie Forbush in SOUTH PACIFIC at Great Plains Theatre (KS).  Earlier this year, Soundstage Productions debuted …AT LAST, a new musical Laura co-wrote with her mother, local composer Leona Ernst.  She spent 2008 singing, dancing, and cruising the rivers of Oregon and Washington with Majestic America Line. Laura, a St. Louis native and Washington University graduate, is grateful to STAGES and its terrific audiences for making it possible to do what she loves in her favorite city!

  ANDREW KRUEP (Ensemble)

Andrew is ecstatic to be performing in his 1st season with STAGES!  He recently received his BFA in Musical Theatre from Southeast Missouri State University.  Favorite regional credits include BIG RIVER (Huck Finn), WEST SIDE STORY (Baby John), THE WIZARD OF OZ (Ensemble), MACBETH (Malcolm), and seven years at The Muny.  University credits include BIG RIVER (Huck), 42ND STREET (Billy Lawlor), ANGELS IN AMERICA (Joe Pitt), and THE 1940’S RADIO HOUR (Lou Cohn).  Thank you to everyone at STAGES for this great opportunity!  And as always, much love to family and friends for their unending support.

  KATY TIBBETS (Ensemble)

Katy is tickled to return for her 2nd season with STAGES!  Before moving back to St. Louis, Katy enjoyed touring the UK and Ireland with the 1st International tour of Nickelodeon’s RUGRATS.  Recently, Katy made her debut with Avalon Theatre in QUILTERS and looks forward to upcoming projects with Echo Theatre Company.  Regionally, Katy has worked with Pennsylvania Centre Stage, Second Street Playhouse, Great Plains Theatre, Tent Theatre, and the Orange Girls.  Katy thanks Matt for his constant patience and love, her family and friends for their continued support, all the girls at GB, and to Michael, Jack, and Lisa for this great opportunity.  No regrets!

  NATHAN GARLAND (Swing)

Nathan is thrilled to be making his debut at STAGES in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and GUYS AND DOLLS!  Previously, he has toured nationally with CHICAGO and the 25th Anniversary tour of CATS.  Some of his favorite regional productions include FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, OKLAHOMA!, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, GODSPELL, and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST

  TAYLOR PIETZ (Swing)

Taylor is excited to be returning to STAGES for her 2nd season having previously performed in last season’s productions of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE and JOSEPH…DREAMCOAT. A senior at UMSL majoring in Advertising, Taylor is a classically trained pianist and is a member of the professional tap trio, “Diva La Tap.”  She is also an instructor of tap, jazz, and ballet at Leaping Lizards Performing Arts Studio.  Taylor can be found in the film scene in both St. Louis and Chicago.  Her first feature film FIREPROOF GLOVES will be out in film festivals around the country later this year.
